Paul McCartney surprised fans in New York yesterday by playing a last-minute pop-up show in Times Square. See footage of the gig below.
Rolling Stone reports that the former Beatle, his band and crew arrived in a convoy of NY yellow cabs before performing tracks from his upcoming album, 'New'.
He played on a minimal stage built on a flatbed truck, and told the crowd: "I'll be putting a little hat out here later – we're basically busking."
His performance lasted just four songs and 15 minutes, which led Macca to joke: "Mr Andy Warhol predicted I'd get 15 minutes of fame. This is it."
Fans gathered after McCartney teased fans on Twitter with the announcement:
Wow! Really excited to be playing New York Times Square at 1pm this afternoon!
