Sufjan Stevens is the latest in a long line of musicians to pen an open letter to Miley Cyrus - except he's not taking it quite as seriously.

Stevens posted the letter on his blog, and seems to mock the recent efforts made by Sinead O'Connor and Amanda Palmer to offer advice to the controversial singer.

Making reference to Bangerz album track '#GetItRight', Stevens jokingly offered some grammatical advice to Cyrus, after complimenting the singer on the track, writing: "Dear Miley. I can't stop listening to #GetItRight (great song, great message, great body), but maybe you need a quick grammar lesson."

"One particular line causes concern: "I been laying in this bed all night long"," he continues. "Miley, technically speaking, you've been LYING, not LAYING, an irregular verb form that should only be used when there's an object, i.e. 'I been laying my tired booty on this bed all night long.'"

The Detroit musician signed off by expressing his admiration for the 'Wrecking Ball' singer: "Miley, I love you because you're the Queen, grammatically and anatomically speaking".

Stevens' open letter comes after a barrage of open letters aimed at the singer, which began when Sinead O'Connor published a letter to Miley on her blog, pleading with her to not let the music industry "prostitute" her, provoking Cyrus to seemingly mock her mental health.

However, the negative publicity surrounding the spat doesn't appear to have affected the 'We Can't Stop' singer - she's topped both the UK albums and singles chart this week.
