David Bowie has been crowned as the 'Best Dressed Briton' of all time in a new poll for BBC's History Magazine.

The 'Fashion' star managed to beat the likes to Queen Elizabeth I and 18th Century Aristocrat Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire to claim to top spot.

"David Bowie has received many accolades in his glittering career, but surely none of them compare to being voted the best-dressed Briton of all time," said BBC History Magazine editor Rob Attar.  "Bowie had to overcome a king, two queens and a political heavyweight to triumph in our poll, and in doing so has struck a blow for 20th and 21st century fashions."

The poll featured 4,067 votes on the BBC History Magazine website. Bowie also featured among George 'Beau' Brummell, Queen Alexandria, Henry III, Whig politician Charles James Fox and legendarydiarist Samuel Pepys in the top 10 most fashionable British citizens of all time.

The Thin White Duke is to head up Vuitton's L’Invitation au Voyage campaign with model Arizona Muse, who kicked off the first round of adverts last year. Sources claim that Bowie was spotted filming the advertising spots in Venice over the summer and they will be aired later this year. A Louis Vuitton spokesman was unavailable for comment.

Meanwhile, Bowie is due to release an extended version of his latest Mercury-nominated comeback album next month. The Next Day Extra will feature unheard tracks, videos and remixes and will be released on 4 November.
