Snoop Dogg has now announced that he will be working on a funk record with Dâm-Funk, and has adopted the name Snoopzilla - a tribute to the funk bassist Bootsy Collins, who referred to himself as Bootzilla. The duo will be working under the band name 7 Days of Funk.
The rapper only recently changed his name to Snoop Lion, after he reinvented himself as a reggae artist when he converted to Rastafarianism - he released his album Reincarnated in April, which featured the likes of Drake, Chris Brown and Rita Ora.
7 Days of Funk are to release their self-titled album on December 10th this year, under the Stones Throw label. Snoop told NME that "We're the babies of the Mothership. I've had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dâm-Funk is cold. He's keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him." Have a listen to their track Faden Away, below:
Snoop had previously said to Q magazine that "I wanna go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And the only way I can do that is if I do 25 years of great music non-stop. So I've got two more years to go. That's my goal."
