The Strokes have promised fans that they're writing new music and plan to 'return to the scene' next year.
The news came via an email newslatter in which the band where informing fans of guitarist Albert Hammond Junior's recent solo EP, AHJ - when they also revealed their current status.
The message read: "Hey folks, while The Strokes are toiling and writing, looking at 2014 for a return to the scene, Albert Hammond Jr. has been busy on his solo EP..."
The Strokes last performed in the UK at Reading and Leeds Festival 2011. They played no live dates in support of their 2013 album Comedown Machine, and now fans are hoping this means that Julian Casablancas and co could tour next year.

Speaking to Gigwise about working outside of The Strokes, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr said: "I love my role in the band and obviously it gives me something else, but I don't know if I need it. I've always loved to play a variety of music, as much as it scares me and it's great to have that ability. I'm not running away from my past, it's just a different outlet and the time is right."
