Morrissey has revealed how he was once offered a number of roles in British soap operas - including a role in Eastenders as Dot Cotton's son.
The former Smiths star has this week released his long awaited new biography, titled simply Autobiography, after the release of the new book was delayed due to a recent falling out with his publishers. Now, the book is on the shelves and causing headlines, as the secret life of the music icon is revealed.
Morrissey states that the bizarre offers came flooding in at the end of the nineties while he was living in America, in an attempt to draw him back to the UK.
"England calls me with an offer of a role on EastEnders, as the son (so far unmentioned) of the character Dot Cotton," he writes. "I would arrive unexpectedly in Albert Square and cause births, deaths and factory fires every time I opened my mouth – numb to shame throughout.
"Funnier still, an offer slides in for a role in Emmerdale, and the most fascinating aspect of both ideas is that somebody somewhere had thought it a good idea."
The book is packed full of revelations about the star's private life, including relationship details with both men and women.
