Iconic hip-hop collective A Tribe Called Quest have announced that they will retire from music following their upcoming shows supporting Kanye West on his Yeezus US tour.

Member Q-Tip took to Twitter this week to break the news that their appearances with Kanye at Brooklyn's Barclay's Centre on 20 November and then at Madison Square Garden on 24 November would be their last.

He tweeted:

After forming in 1985, A Tribe Called Quest went on to become one of hip-hop's most successful and influential groups of all time, with anthems like 'Can I Kick It?', 'Scenario', 'Award Tour', Check The Rhyme', 'Bonita Applebum' and 'Electric Relaxation'. Their albums The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders are regarded as classics.

They first split in 1998, but have reunited several times since - leaving fans hopeful that this announcement won't mark the end of ATCQ after all.
