Paul McCartney gave London fans and lucky tourists in London's Covent Garden a rare treat today (18 October, 2013) when he performed a pop-up gig at lunchtime. See a video of his performance below.
Earlier this month, Macca performed a similar stunt in New York's Times Square. But today, the former Beatle was in town to promote his last album, New, when he took to Twitter to announce that he'd be appearing in Covent Garden. The gig was also streamed live across the internet.
Macca posted:
I'm getting ready to pop up in Covent Garden at 1pm today. Oh baby!

McCartney will now be heading to the recently reopened Oxford Street branch of HMV for a signing session with fans from 3pm.
Speaking of McCartney's appearance at the store, HMV Chairman Paul McGowan says in a statement: "We’re truly honoured to welcome Paul McCartney back to HMV 363 Oxford Street. It sends a clear signal across the world that HMV is truly back in its rightful place as the home of entertainment."
The 363 Oxford Street store holds special significance for the former Beatles star, as it was where the band cut the demo disc that led them to meet George Martin and sign with EMI. The rest, as they say, is history.
