Biffy Clyro, Foals, Ellie Goulding, Vampire Weekend, Manic Street Preachers and more took home Q Awards at this year's music ceremony, with many thanking David Bowie's absence for their victory at the awards.

During the London ceremony today, Robbie Williams, Pet Shop Boys and Suede were also honoured. Despite being nominated for several awards, David Bowie of course didn't show up - something that several acts made light of in their acceptance speeches.

It's probably for the best. We like Vampire Weekend and all, but are they really not only better than David Bowie, but better than every other band on the planet today? Hmmm....

Accepting the award, Ezra Koenig joked: "Are we really the best band in the world today? We did a battle of the bands once and came third. But now we're the best. So thank you Q. And to the two bands who beat us in 2006? Go fuck yourselves."

Taking the stage to pick up her award for Best Solo Act, Ellie Goulding said: "I really didn't expect this, you know, but perhaps David Bowie not being here had something to do with it?"

Similarly, Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro said in his speech: "As always, thank fuck David Bowie isn't here."

Marking a great year that saw them headline Latitude Festival and the Royal Albert Hall, as well as acclaimed performances at Reading and Leeds and Glastonbury (which also took home the prize for Best Event), Foals won the Best Live Act Award.
