Robert Plant star Led Zeppelin has revealed that he made a remarkable discovery recently, coming across some old Led Zeppelin recordings that have not until this point seen the light of day.

The discovery is sure to thrill the band's massive fan base, although apparently not such good news for bassist John Paul Jones, who takes over lead vocal duties on some of the songs, and is sadi to be less than thrilled with the planned release.

Referring to plans to include the tracks on the impending release of the band's remastered back catalogue, Plant joked: "So far, he's going to give me two cars and a greenhouse not to get 'em on the album".

Talking to BBC 6Music, he went into details about his discovery, saying: "I found some quarter-inch spools recently. I had a meeting with Jimmy and we baked 'em up and listened to 'em. And there's some very, very interesting bits and pieces that probably will turn up on these things."

The remastering project is the band's first for 20 years. Jimmy Page talked to Rolling Stone recently about why he thought it was necessary. He explained "Everything is being transferred from analog to a higher-resolution digital format. That's one of the problems with the Zeppelin stuff. It sounds ridiculous on MP3. You can't hear what's there properly."

Hinting that there may be even more rarities on the new releases, he claims that there exist "different versions of things, different approaches to the mixes." and that the "substantial stuff" is to be released.
