Shane Meadows: 'The Stone Roses have been making new music'

Stalwart UK director Shane Meadows has revealed that he is sure that The Stone Roses are currently recording new material.

The Roses, who reformed in 2012 following a 16 year hiatus, have had a spectacular run of shows including a series of homecoming concerts, V Festival, Coachella and the Finsbury Park gigs at which Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie called the audience the most 'fucked' he'd ever seen. The question since the comeback is when (and whether) the band will record new material after a deal has been signed with Universal in the UK and Columbia in the US.

Now Shane Meadows, who directed the fly on the wall 'Made of Stone' documentary has revealed to NME that he is sure the band are currently recording new material.

"I went up one day when they’d been writing some stuff," he said. "There was a four-track machine there and I thought now I'm actually editing the film, if they walk out of the room and leave that I'm going to press play and I'm going to risk getting beaten up just to hear it. They never left me in the room on my own."

Elaborating on the subject, Meadows stated: "I know they were writing and it wasn't fiction and I know that there were definitely tunes getting laid down. But, as with everything to do with The Stone Roses, putting a time frame on it I wouldn’t have the faintest idea".

Meanwhile the band themselves have been remaining silent about a 2015 release date that has been rumoured since drummer Mani let slip the date to Gigslutz. The band are however, among the bands rumoured to be headlining Glastonbury festival next year.
