Zane Lowe: 'Everyone finally worked out that QOTSA are just a weird band'

DJ believess success is due to their versatility

Radio 1 DJ and new music champion Zane Lowe has stated he believes Queens of the Stone Age's success is down to the band's undeniable weirdness.

Speaking to Gigwise at his Relentless Live gig, Lowe said: "The thing about Queens is that they've been saying this is who we are for a long time and everyone keeps saying "no you're the Songs For The Deaf band". But they're like we're not that band".

Alluding to the band's versatility to jump from a catalogue of different genres by referring to them as "weird", Zane is highlighting the fact that their complexity was always ahead of the public consciousness.

He adds: "I think what finally happened was everyone just worked it and went: "Oh you are weird! That's cool we still love you". If I was Josh I'd be happy as they finally kicked the door down. That is called walking the line."

Queens of the Stone Age have had one hell of a year following the release of Like Clockwork..., a record that Lowe reffered to as their "weirdest". It stormed the charts in a face-off with Disclosure's Settle and returned the band into the music mainstream. There is also speculation that the band could be in the running to headline Reading Festival next year.
