Headline-grabbomg couple Sky Ferreira and DIIV guitarist Zachary Cole performed a cover of Elliott Smith's classic 'A Distorted Reality Is Now A Necessity To Be Free'. Watch their performance below.

Yesterday was the tenth anniversary of Smith's tragic death. In tribute to the singer-songwriter legend, Cole and Ferreira played the track at a memorial gig in New York.

The pair made headlines earlier this month when they were arrested at Saugerties in New York, when Smith was reportedly found with a plastic bag containing 42 decks of heroin and Ferreira 'was found in possession of ecstasy and resisted arrest'.

Speaking to Billboard, Ferreira claims that the Saugerties Police had ulterior motives and that they were out to get them.

"I legally can't say much about what happened, but it's not what it all seems," she said. "I kind of got fucked with. And it's annoying because I wasn't charged with his heroin. It says it. The public records are out there... If I was even anywhere near that, they would've charged me because they had no problem charging me with other shit. They were out to kind of like fuck with us."

Discussing the drug habit rumours that surrounded her arrest, Ferreira stressed: "It's hard that every day now I have people calling me a heroin addict or making fun of me and saying that I'm gonna die of AIDS from needles and shit like that...I know for a fact I'm not a drug addict. That's all I really have to say about it."
