Kanye West has explained the reasoning behind his recent duet with a man dressed as Jesus on his current tour, saying it's fine to portray the son of God on stage because he is a Christian.

Kicking off the tour in Seattle on Saturday, Kanye received rave reviews due to the epic career-spanning set and grand staging - featuring a mountain and a man dressed as Jesus. See photos and footage below. Now, appearing on the JV Show on San Francisco's Wild 94 radio station, Yeezy discussed using the image of Christ in his performances.

“I had a friend of mine that’s a pastor that was there when we started discussing how we wanted to deliver it," said Kanye. "My girl (Kim Kardashian) even asked afterward, ‘Hmmm, is it weird if Jesus comes on stage?’… (He said), ‘No, we do plays all the time [where] people play Jesus'.

"You know what’s awesome about Christianity is that we’re allowed to portray God. We’re allowed to draw an image of him, we’re allowed to make movies about him… Michelangelo did it.”

Discussing the 'different voice' that he's been using in interviews recently, West said that it was a response to those who mock him - with 'white voices'.

“Even when you get invited to certain dinner parties or even when you’re in certain magazines, it’s still like a Dinner For Schmucks situation," he said. "Are they inviting you to be a part of what they’re doing or inviting you to laugh at your teeth and ask you a million questions like, ‘Oh, those are cool teeth. What’s that?’ And we have our thing, that every time we do it, we give them the white voice. It goes both ways.”

Last month, Kanye confirmed on French TV that his Yeezus tour would be coming to Europe in 2014.
