The Arctic Monkeys have shown this year that they can truly mix it with the biggest bands in the world. Their fifth album, AM, went straight to No.1 - following in the footsteps of all four previous releases. They headlined Glastonbury and are embarking on a sell-out tour. Not a bad year to cap their stellar career so far.
They have certainly outstripped all of their peers, but have the other bright young things of 2005 at least stayed the course? Inevitably not all of them have, but I have to say it's a pretty good combined effort.
