Kanye West has explained his controversial "creative genius" comments on Jimmy Fallon in a new interview, citing Drake as a peer he looks up to. Watch clips from the interview below.

The rapper told radio station KMEL that he is heavily influenced by other artists whilst working on material, saying: "My creative genius is creating around genius, using creative geniuses to express."

He went on to suggest fellow rapper Drake is someone who he respects and could learn from, saying: "I'll send Drake ten tracks and ask him to write every one of those choruses."

The interview, recorded hours before West proposed to girlfriend Kim Kardashian (in typically understated style, on a baseball pitch surrounded by hundreds of people) also touched on the meaning behind Yeezus, and the rapper's relationship with Christianity, with West admitting he "wanted to be like Christ" when he was growing up. Of course.

The 'Black Skinhead' rapper also took the opportunity to heap bucketloads of gushy praise on his future fiancee, slightly overstating her influence on the fashion world (calling her "one of the greatest designers in the world") and saying the only girl he's loved as much is his late mother.

West kicked off his Yeezus tour in Seattle last Saturday, rising on to the stage on a mountain and bringing a man dressed as Jesus on stage.
