Sky Ferreira has spoken candidly about the creative process that went in to making her much anticipated debut Night Time, My Time, saying she had a "lot of anger" in her.
In a new interview with Pitchfork, Ferreira acknowledged the darker, more anguished themes of Night Time, My Time are in stark comparison with the shiny, simple pop of earlier EP Ghost, citing the reason as experiences she's been through in the past couple of years. "A lot happened within the last year and a half. I had a lot of anger in me," she revealed.
The LA singer, 21, also touched on the struggle she went through to get to this landmark point in her career, talking about being signed at 14 and instantly being entangled in disagreements with label Capitol. "I wasn't going to be what they wanted me to be because I couldn't do what they wanted me to do," she said, going on to describe Night Time, My Time as five years in the making.

Other subjects include the controversial, Gaspar Noe-shot topless in the shower album artwork, which has provoked many to accuse Ferreira of stripping off for sales. However, the singer has implicitly denied this, and explained what went on behind the scenes, saying: "Initially, we thought, 'I'll stand in the shower because the green wall looks cool. And then it was like, 'Why is she dressed in the shower? This looks fucking weird."
Ferreira, however, is standing on her ground on the artwork, despite reservations from her record label."It's hard enough to be a woman making music at all, but I'm not going to start covering myself up just to seem more credible—I'm going to embrace my sexuality because I have every right to."
The singer also spoke again about her much-publicised recent arrest for drugs possession, saying the incident has detracted from what should be the most important subject - her album. "I've been working so long towards putting this record out, but the arrest overshadows it," she said.
Night Time, My Time will be released October 29th.
