It's got to be one of the most difficult decisions an artist has to make. Which song should they release to introduce themselves to the world? Whereas some artists arrive on the scene with offerings that become instant classics, others take a little more time to hit their stride.

Here are some now classic artists who didn't set the world on fire with their first efforts. There's hope for us all here I think. Just because the first thing you do isn't as well received as you'd hoped, doesn't mean you can't go on to be one of the biggest artists on planet. Plenty of this lot certainly did.
