Britney Spears's music is certainly not to everyone's tastes, and the Royal Navy has now taken advantage of this fact to keep the threat of deadly Somali pirates at bay.
Apparently the singer's particularly Western style is enough to get them sailing off at full pelt, leaving the high seas clear for merchant shipping to pass safely.
Talking to Metro, officer Rachel Owens explained the unusual tactic, saying: "Her songs were chosen by the security team because they thought the pirates would hate them most."
Generously explaining that it's not just the quality of the music that puts them off, she goes on: "These guys can’t stand Western culture or music, making Britney’s hits perfect. As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney, they move on as quickly as they can."
As much as they are keen to keep the seas clear, Steven Jones of the Security Association for the Maritime Industry says that there are limits to the lengths even they will go. He claims, possibly in jest, "I’d imagine using Justin Bieber would be against the Geneva Convention."
