Jake Bugg: 'I'd be honoured to win the Mercury Prize'

Star also thinks Black Sabbath should be nominated

Jake Bugg has said that he would be 'honoured' to win the Mercury Music Prize tonight, despite previously saying that it 'didn't mean that much to him'.

Speaking to Gigwise on the Mercury Music Prize red carpet before the results were announce, the Nottingham rising star responded to the headlines that he made earlier this month after stating that he wasn't really interested in the award.

"I'd be grateful," said Bugg. "I might not show it, but it's about people's opinions and just because one person thinks that something is different doesn't mean that it's good or it's bad - so why should it change how I write my songs or how I make my records?"

When asked if there was anyone else that he thought should have been nominated but didn't make the shortlist, Bugg replied: "The Black Sabbath record was alright, I thought. It wasn't absolutely mind-blowing but it was certainly surprisingly good. I'm a fan so it was cool."

The results of the Mercury Music Prize will be announced at 10pm tonight (Wednesday 30 October)
