Blake was crowned the winner of the Mercury Music Prize 2013 with his second album, Overgrown last night. Blake was also nominated for the Prize for his debut album and was seen as somewhat of an outsider this year, with Laura Mvula, Disclosure and David Bowie tipped as the favourites.
When asked how it felt to beat Bowie, Blake responded: "I don't think I beat him - I don't think that's how this prize works," said Blake. It's amazing to be in the running with Bowie after so many albums. A lot of artists do their best work when they're young and it's always disappointing to me when people don't continue in that vein and don't continue innovating and I think that David Bowie is an example to people like me who would like to continue in that vein."
