MIA is usually full of surprises when it comes to her live shows and her New York concert last night was no different as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange opened the show for her.

Assange spoke to the shocked crowd via Skype from the Ecuadorian embassy in London where he currently lives in exile.

MIA is known to be a supporter of Assange and even called her mixtape Vicki Leekx, but no-one could have expected the guest speaker to appear on the screen.

Assange is wanted for arrest in both the UK and US for leaking thousands of classified American government and military documents.

Watch MIA's video for 'Bring The Noize' below:

MIA's fourth studio album Matangi is currently being streamed online for free. To listen to the album in full click here.
