Biffy Clyro: 'We're not metal enough to headline Download, although..'

Biffy Clyro have opened up about the possibility of headlining Download Festival in the future, saying that they don't believe they are heavy enough - but perhaps they could do it.

In an interview with Gigwise at their Samsung Galaxy Studio Live gig in Gulidford, Ben and James Johnston discussed the idea, saying that due to the nature of the audience it was something that could happen.

"We haven't headlined Download, we're maybe not metal enough to headline Download," said Ben, "we did headline Sonisphere though and that's definitely a metal festival so fair enough I take that back."

Elaborating further, drummer James said: "I think metal and heavy rock fans are pretty open minded, they've gotten into a style of music that inherently isn't popular. People who're into loud rock music don't really want [their music] to perhaps be uber-popular, maybe that's not the entire goal. I think people who go to those festivals are very open minded and just because they've got tattoos and long hair doesn't mean they don't like the tender moments in music as well."

Meanwhile this morning, Avenged Sevenfold have been announced as the first headliners along with "special guest" Rob Zombie. This has sparked mixed reactions amongst fans with some praising the choice and others not believing the band are heavy enough to headline.
