Britney Spears has raised a fair few eyebrows with her choice of reading material, naming homophobic pastor Max Lucado as her favourite author in a Q+A with fans.

The rather regretable admission was made during a live Q&A on Britney's Twitter account when she was asked by a fan what her favourite book was, to which she responded: "anything by Max Lucado". The author in question wrote a book in 2004 with the title What God Says About Gay Marriage in which he claimed that legalizing gay marriage was just as bad as legalizing incest.

"How will homosexuality impact our culture?" he wrote in the book. "What about the spread of disease? If gay lifestyle and gay marriage is endorsed – what follows? Polygamy? Legalized incest? If we can’t draw a line, will lines be drawn at all? Men and women were not intended for identical gender but opposite (sic).’

He also claims: "The legalization of gay marriages will erode the traditional family, Legalized gay marriage will lead to legalized polygamy and other deviations, The highest reason, however, for opposing gay marriage is simply this: God does (sic)."

Hopefully this will come as a bit of a shock to Britney who has spent the last few weeks discussing just how much she loves the gay community and how many gay friends she has. Talking to San Francisco's 99.7 NOW FM she said: "A lot of my hair stylists and my beauty team that I work with are gay so I hang out with gays a lot and I just think they're adorable and hilarious."
