Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis has spoken of his desire to headline Reading festival, admitting it would be a "childhood dream".

In an interview with Fake DIY magazine, Philippakis also said he hoped his goal of headlining the massive rock festival wouldn't affect the band's integrity: "I would like to headline Reading... I'd like to think that this desire wouldn't hurt the creative process, like inwardly," he mused.

"If we headline Reading that'd be a childhood dream. It'd be freaky. But I'm not gonna go sit and fucking like, pre-meditate or something. I know better than that."

Foals have had a massive year, releasing third album Holy Fire to critical acclaim and commercial success, and later headlining Latitude festival and working the rest of the festival circuit with the enthusiasm and passion that won them Best Live Act at the Q Awards. Philippakis acknowledged it's been a big year, calling it "weird" and "new".

Philippakis, 27, also touched on how they survived the premature death that tends to occur to buzz bands, as they were when debut Antidotes arrived. "We weathered that storm," he said. "We're lucky to have outlived it. It can take a lot of bands down."

Holy Fire, released in February, was the band's highest charting album to date, but Philippakis says they aren't rushing into the next one: "I can't predict what kind of album we'll make next. It might self sabotage some potential to become bigger."

The Foals frontman also admitted the band are tricky to work with, saying: "We're a difficult band to work with...we're paranoid, there's a perfectionist streak and we're ambitious...we're not content with something sounding alright."
