Albert Hammond JR has hit out at Courtney Love's recent comments about the joys of drug abuse, saying that the former Hole star is 'full of shit'.
The Strokes guitarist and solo star has spoken openly about his own struggles with drug addiction in 2013, and has slammed Love for praising the effects of crack cocaine, as she once claimed it made her brain work better and improved her maths skills.
"She's full of shit," says Hammond JR in a new interview with Noisey. "People make statements like that. They're trying to express in words. I think it needs to sound more extreme just to have that effect. She's describing that she had extreme focus on one thing, whereas most of the time, she was just more all over the place.
"She's definitely full of shit."
Hammond has spoken extensively about his own drug issues, telling Gigwise that his revelations shocked his mum more than anyone else.
"I guess for me, it doesn't feel like a weird thing to have out there," he said. "I didn't show it in a 'reality TV show kind of way'. It was just that you have to explain where you were to explain where you are now and for people to understand why you're saying certain things. It was about showcasing 'oh, look what I did' - it was more about 'wow, how did I make it through that?
"Therapy is when I talk to my therapist. Talking to the media isn't therapeutic but it's definitely interesting to see the reaction and I definitely didn't feel strange to talk about it. Funnily enough, the only reaction that I really get is from people responding on social media. That and my mom was like 'why didn't you tell me?' - but you can't tell your mom all of the gory details."
