Eminem has made UK chart history with his new album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 - which debuted at No.1 this week.

The position marks the US rapper as the first American star to score seven consecutive UK No.1 albums. It also puts him on par with The Beatles who achieved the same feat between 1963 and 1966. The over-all record is jointly held by Led Zeppelin and ABBA, who have both had runs of eight consecutive chart-topping albums in the UK.

The Marshall Mathers LP 2 has now become the third fastest selling artist album this year, after shifting over 143,000 copies. It follows Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, which sold 165,000 copies during its first week on sale) and Arctic Monkeys’ AM  which shifted an impressive 157,000 copies week one).

Now That’s What I Call Music 85 is the fastest selling album over-all, which is depressing - selling an astounding 262,000 copies in a week back in July. Sigh.

Elsewhere in the album charts, X Factor winner James Arthur comes in at No.2 with his self-titled debut, Tinie Tempah lands at No.3 with Demonstration and Andre Rieu & Johann Strauss come in at No.4 with Orchestra’s Music Of The Night. The Overtones complete the top 5 with Saturday Night At The Movies.
