Organisers of the now defunct Sonisphere festival have today (12 November) announced a festival celebrating forty years of events at Knebworth Park.

The news has arrived as the Sonisphere website has been altered to display a promotion for the festival which will take place from Friday 4 July to Sunday 6 July, 2014. It remains unclear as to whether this means a return to the festival circuit, or whether this is an an event of its own.

Acts to have played legendary events at Knebworth over the last 40 years include Oasis, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Who, Deep Purple, Genesis and many more. Sonisphere began at Knebworth in 2009 and saw acts such as Metallia, Iron Maiden, Linkin Park and Slipknot.

Sonisphere fell onto the festival junk heap last year after the organisers said that they had failed to secure strong enough headliners to let the festival go ahead. Queen were due to headline with Adam Lambert following an announcement at the Brits but instead had to mover their shows to the Hammersmith Apollo.
