Lorde is set to build on her 2013 success, having recently signed a huge $2.5million record deal after a bidding war from major labels to get her talent on their books.
The deal, which was signed for a measly $2.5 million, sees Lorde sign over her EP Lovers Club and her full length album Pure Heroine. Other executives who were in the race included: Kobalt, Sony/ATV, Universal Music Publishing Group and Spirit all of whom went full on in the war to winner over the star.
"My A&R guy Corey Roberts picked up on her in January, and sent me an email saying, ‘Stop what you’re doing,’" says Ron Perry, head of A&R at Songs Music Publishing. "That was pretty ballsy considering he just started working for us six weeks prior. But I did, I flipped out right away, I played ‘Royals’ for Matt and he heard the first 12 seconds and was like, ‘That’s a hit.’”

Perry, who has been praised by CEO Matt Pincus for sealing the lucrative deal, signed the contract with Lorde on 7 November - the singer's 17th birthday. However, prior to the deal he already introduced her to the companies other clients including Diplo and The Weeknd in the hope of seeing collaborations in the future as well as a fruitful songwriting career for Lorde.
"She’s gonna be a really big songwriter outside of Lorde," Perry says. "She’s going to have a lot of big songs out there as Ella, and it’s a great feeling that we can be at a place that understands music comes first and foremost."
