Miley Cyrus has defended her much-talked about newly sexualised image, and even claims she's "one of the biggest feminists in the world."

Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat, Cyrus argued her sexual freedom actually encourages feminism. "I feel like I'm one of the biggest feminists in the world because I tell women to not be scared of anything," she said. "I'm for anybody and anything, I don’t care what you want to do, what you want to look like."

The star also defended her much parodied stage persona, saying: "I don't actually walk around all day twerking with my tongue out dressed as a teddy bear...I never worry about what I do on stage making me look bad. I think people if they actually knew me would be surprised at how normal I am."

Despite her recent stunts, including the infamous MTV VMA twerking incident and hammer-licking 'Wrecking Ball' video, being criticised by basically, er, everyone, 20-year-old Cyrus has at least one ally in sociologist and author Catherine Hakim, who told Radio 4: "There's absolutely no contradiction at all between being a feminist and taking your clothes off and being comfortable about displaying your sexuality."

"She's using it for her own purposes, she's increasing her fan base, she's making a lot of money, she's doing what she wants to do," she continued.

Cyrus touched down in London after her stint in Amsterdam, where she courted controversy once again when she appeared to smoke a joint onstage at the MTV EMAs ceremony. It's now been reported Dutch authorities will be investigating the incident as the singer violated a smoke-free zone.
