U2 are reported to be announcing their eagerly-awaited new album during the SuperBowl XLVIII in February 2014. The LP is rumoured for an April release.

Billboard reports that Bono and co are said to be in talks with sponsors and brands to unveil their new album during the SuperBowl's famous (and incredibly expensive) ad breaks. Madonna's manager Guy Oseary is reported to be "reaching out to potential sponsors on the band's behalf".

The Irish band have been working on the follow up to 2009's No Line On the Horizon, with bassist Adam Clayton recently revealing to Irish station 98FM it will most likely be finished by the end of November - and it will be a "return to the U2 of old".

The album is slated for an April release, according to Billboard, and producer Danger Mouse (mainly known for his Gnarls Barkley project alongside Cee-Lo Green) has been at the helm for the recording sessions in New York. Coldplay's Chris Martin was also spotted at the studio, fuelling rumours he will make an appearance on the record.

U2 also recently recorded two tracks for the upcoming Nelson Mandela biopic, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, including the anthemic 'Ordinary Love', which can be previewed in the film's trailer.
