Sinead O'Connor has claimed that her very public fall-out with Miley Cyrus has brought about a very important discussion about the treatment of mental health and people with mental health problems.
After O'Connor famously wrote an open letter to the free wheeling young pop star, she received abuse for from the Cyrus herself and her fans. Many picked up on her admission of suicidal tendencies and cruelly taunted her that she should kill herself.
Talking to Time magazine, O'Connor claimed "I think she was actually very helpful. I think the two of us, without meaning to, did quite a good job in terms of creating conversation about something really, really important".
Looking to take some positives from the frankly very unsavoury reaction of Cyrus and her devotees, O'Connor explained "I think what was more important really that came out of the Miley thing was this issue of being able to conversate about how mental health and human rights is now".
