Soundgarden are the first act announced for this year's Life Festival in Oswiecim - formerly known as Auschwitz.
The show marks the Seattle grunge icons' first ever gig in Poland, but is sure to cause a stir among some due to the location and association with the infamous Nazi concentration camp.
The festival was started in 2010 by Darek Maciborek, a journalist of a broadcasting station - RMF FM, who was born, raised and has always lived in the town.
A statement on the festival's website reads: "Darek Maciborek intends to 'break the spell' of his home town that is commonly associated solely with the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum. The main concept of the Festival is to build peaceful relations beyond cultural and state borders where there is no place for anti-Semitism, racism, and other forms of xenophobia.
"The message of a peace and tolerance comes from the town where during the Second World War (WWII) was the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp - Auschwitz-Birkenau."
Life Festival Oswiecim takes place from Wednesday 25 - Saturday 28 June, 2014. Soundgarden will perform on the Friday. Tickets to the event go on sale on Wednesday 20 November, 2013.
