Influential folk star Roy Harper has appeared in court, charged with a string of child sex offences.
Harper is alleged to abused a girl from the age of 12. The BBC reports that Harper, 72, appeared before Hereford Magistrates' Court ealier today ( Monday18 November, 2013) to face nine charges in total: two counts of sexual assault, three charges of indecent assault and four charges of gross indecency.
He was in court for just four minutes and did not any pleas to any of the offences.
West Mercia Police say the alleged offences occurred Herefordshire between 1975 and 1977 and relate to one victim.
Harper, of Rossmore, Clonakilty, County Cork, was issued a summons on 16 October after he was voluntarily interviewed by police at Heathrow Airport on 22 February.
The influential folk star has produced more than 30 albums during his career and is renowned for singing lead vocals on Pink Floyd's classic 'Have a Cigar' from the seminal 1975 album Wish You Were Here. Led Zeppelin hailed him as an influence and he was also awarded the MOJO Hero Award by the music magazine in 2005.
