Prince debuted a brand new song online yesterday (November 18) - and several people have pointed out it contains potentially homophobic lyrics.

'Da Bourgeoisie' tells the story of being dumped for another woman. In one verse, Prince makes reference to the fact he spotted his former female love interest with another woman, and says: "Last time I checked you left the dirty world", and "I wish I never kissed your [spits in disgust] ugh."

Prince posted the track on his Twitter alongside the rather defensive message: ""Da Bourgeoisie" is the title of the new song, not Ray Charles, Bearded Lady or anything else prejudicial."

As blog Joe. My. God points out, the diminutive singer has previously announced his opposition to same-sex marriage, sharing some pretty hardcore opinions in an interview with the New Yorker. When the New Yorker asked Prince about his perspectives on social issues such as gay marriage and abortion, he tapped his bible and said: "God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, ‘Enough'." Sure.
