Lily Allen has revealed how a vicious war of words with Azealia Banks reignited her creative spark, claiming the spat ignited 'the juvenile flame' in her belly.

Allen make a tepid return to pop this month with a cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' for the 2013 John Lewis Christmas campaign, before making her 'proper' return with fantastic new single 'Hard Out Here'. The single is her first original material since 2009, and Allen has revealed she was inspired to make her comeback after Azealia Banks accused her children of being ugly and her husband looking like 'a thumb'.

"There was one person that was particularly nasty to me on Twitter for no apparent reason," said Lily Allen in a typically open interview with Radio One's Nick Grimshaw. "And I was struggling with finding my voice - not my singing voice, because I've never found that - but my writing voice.

"And this one person was being particularly horrible to me and I happened to be in a studio session at the time, and it was just brilliant because it ignited this juvenile flame in my belly. So thank you, Ms. Banks."

The spat took place in July 2013, with Banks hitting out at Lily Allen shortly after the rapper performed at Glastonbury.

"weak... she can't talk though... NOT with that ugly husband she has." Banks wrote on Twitter. "@lilyrosecooper your husband looks like a thumb."

Although the '212' star is well-known for her Twitter wars, Lily couldn't resist biting back as she claimed Banks was a 'one hit wonder' and a 'wannabe' who was just using the feud as a form of self-promotion.

The pair have since continued to mock one another by sharing a series of photos with their Twitter followers and Banks bragged about her recent Glastonbury performance.

She wrote: "One hit, but am certainly NOT a wonder. Just played for 70k at glasto, critics STILL eagerly anticipating my debut. Suck on that hoe!" (sic).

Lily then seemed to have the final say and put an end to her side of the argument by replying, "Ive had 2 kids since 212 dropped and i bet my my album still comes out 1st. b**ch is scared of the ball. OUT".
