David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys nominated for South Bank Awards

The nominations have been announced for the 2014 South Bank Sky Arts Awards, with Arctic Monkeys, David Bowie and Disclosure all given the nod. 

The South Bank Sky Awards cover culture across a range of mediums, and in the pop music category David Bowie is up for his album The Next Day, Arctic Monkeys for AM and Disclosure for their debut album Settle.

King Krule is also up for an award as the breakthrough music act of the year with other nominations going to Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa in film and Broadchurch in TV.

The awards will take place early next year on 27 January, 2014 at the Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane. Hosted by Melvynn Bragg, the show will be broadcast on Sky Arts 1 with a set designed by pop artist Peter Blake.

"Once again, the list of nominees for the South Bank Sky Arts Awards shows that the UK arts landscape is as vibrant as ever," said Bragg, "Its vital to honour the excellence of artists, performers, musicians and authors especially at this time, and were very glad that we can do this."
