Singer Lana Del Rey and rapper Mac Miller have contributed $10,000 each to fund a new film telling the life story of visual artist Daniel Johnston.

The musicians have invested in a Kickstarter fund which aims to raise money for filmmaker Gabriel Sunday's film about artist and occasional musician Daniel Johnston. The pair's donations have been richly rewarded - Miller is reported to have received Johnston's illustrated chord organ for his generosity, whilst Del Rey and her boyfriend Barrie-Jame O'Neill have both been awarded the title of Executive Producers, as well as erm, a "signed Smurf ukelele", according to Sunday's Twitter page.

The narrative film sees Johnston portraying "an aging musician coming to terms with the dreams of yesteryear." The Kickstarter page also reads: 'We began shooting with a simple outline: an intimate interview between Daniel and his younger self addressing his most prolific and maddening era. Our hope was to bring his stories, memories and art to life. What ensued during shooting was beyond anything our crew could have hoped for."

It seems Del Rey has a keen interest in filmmaking, having worked on her much-anticipated short film Tropico for several months. Today (November 22), the visuals finally got a release date and full trailer. It will be premiered on December 5.
