After featuring on the front covers of both The Marshall Mathers LP and The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Eminem's iconic childhood home has been demolished. See footage of the destruction below.
The property was seriously damaged in a fire on 7 November 2013, while the rapper was in Amsterdam for the MTV European Music Awards. The property was later deemed 'structurally unsafe' by the Michigan Land Bank, a government agency who owned the property. The land bank has issued a statement claiming that knocking the property down was to keep the neighbourhood safe for existing residents.
"The condition of the property post-fire presents a safety hazard that the Land Bank is responsible for removing," said Kim Homan, director of the Michigan Land Bank. "The goal is to demolish and clean up the site, so neighborhood safety and order can be restored."
The house had previously been on sale at auction, with more than 120 bids reported on the property. Eminem has so far refused to comment on the demolition of the property.
