The eldest son of soul legend Marvin Gaye has reportedly launched a new lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, claiming the duo stole elements of his father's work for their infamous smash, 'Blurred Lines'.
Gaye's family had previously launched legal proceedings against the US duo, claiming that they had used elements of his iconic hit, 'Got To Give It Up' for their 2013 collaboration with rapper T.I. Now, Marvin Gaye III has hired an attorney of his own and claims Thicke has committed copyright infringement on 'Blurred Lines' - and three other songs.
Gaye III claims that Thicke borrowed elements of 'After The Dance' on track 'Love After War', 'I Want You' for 'Made U Love Me' and 'Trouble Man' for 'Million Dolla Baby'.
A statement from Gaye III's attorney claims that simply listening to the two tracks reveals the similiarities, saying that there is "no doubt but that they were each wholly dependent for their very creations upon Thicke's brazen copying."
However, it has also been reported that Gaye III is only bringing legal action against 'Blurred Lines' and 'Love After War'.
The earlier lawsuit against Robin Thicke was brought by Frankie Christian Gaye and Nona Gaye. Pharrell Williams previously claimed there was no similarity between the songs in question.
"I'm a huge fan of Marvin Gaye. He is a genius. He is the patriarch," he said to the Associated Press during an event for Calvin Klein at Fashion Week in October 2013.
Talking about the comparison between the tracks, Pharrell continued: "If you read music, all you have to do is read the sheet music. It's completely different. Marvin Gaye is the king of all kings, so let's be clear about that. And we take our hats off to him.
He added: "But anybody that plays music and reads music, just simply go to the piano and play the two. One's minor and one's major. And not even in the same key."
