The handwritten manuscript of Bruce Springsteen's 1975 hit 'Born to Run', featuring unpublished material from the iconic track, will be going up for auction on 5 December in New York with a presale estimate of $70,000 to $100,000.

According to auctioneers Sotherby's, the manuscript is said to be used in the collection of Springsteen's former manager, Mike Appel, and contains an 'almost perfect chorus'. However most lines in the 1974 version have apparently been unpublished and unrecorded.

"Few manuscripts of 'Born to Run' are available. with the present example being one of ony two identified that include the most famous lines in the song," said Sotheby.

The piece illustrates Springsteen's well known 'intensive drafting process' and thought pattern, written in blue ink on an 81/2-by-11 sheet of ruled notepaper. The main lyrics of the song are visible with some other words in the margins including 'Wild', 'Angels' and 'Velocity'.
