One Direction have scored a No.1 album this week with third release Midnight Memories, and not just that, the X Factor boyband have scored the fastest selling album of the year, shifting an enormous 237,000 copies in just one week.

Yep, in a year that saw huge, game-changing releases from the likes of Daft Punk, Arctic Monkeys, Queens Of The Stone Age, Disclosure and many more, there's simply no stopping a boyband with the backing of Simon Cowell and the UK's biggest talent show. Ah well, good luck to them.

But this isn't the most depressing fact in modern pop music. Oh no. The music world is littered with injustice and shocking truths that seem difficult to believe.
