2013 has seen a huge debate bubble to the surface surrounding misogyny in the music industry. The likes of Miley Cyrus and Rihanna have been on the tip of everyone's tongue when pointing fingers at who's to blame. But pop sensation Charli XCX couldn't care less...

"I like that girls are fucking things up right now," Charli told Gigwise. "The more we fuck things up the more people will talk about their experiences and have all of these different opinions which is great."

She may be blunt, but it feels refreshing coming from a young female artist. The 'I Love It' star already made quite the statement this year with her synth-bubblegum-goth-pop album True Romance. Now with a second album in the works, she also has plenty to say on what's been going on this year, finding the reaction to artists like Miley and Rihanna surprising when sex within the music industry's being nothing new in 2013.

"Misogyny in the music industry and sex in pop music has been around for so long, so it's funny it took something actually graphically sexual to happen for everyone to freak out," explained the 'Superlove' star.

As a young 21-year-old herself experiencing fame, very much like Miley, she isn't shy in admitting she doesn't find nudity a 'big deal'. But she made the point that its important for female artists to be in control of what their doing, instead of letting others dictate their actions.

"I don't find nudity a big deal. I don't find what Miley's doing offensive. I actually think it's really punk," said the star. "I don't care if she's taking her clothes off as long as she's in control of it and it's not a decision made by some guys fully dressed in suits at her record label. I think it's fucking cool if she's in control as a huge pop artist on a major label."

But, Charli went on to explain that she finds the stereotypes that come along with nudity ridiculous and ultimately, boring: "If your naked you're selling sex and a stupid slut. That is not true as you can be an empowered female who's proud of their body, owning it and completely in control. I also hate the idea of if you have short hair and cover up, your a boring lesbian. That's stupid shit. The whole putting in boxes thing tends to happen all the time. It's so boring."
