Simon Cowell has responded to Jake Bugg’s criticism of The X Factor by insisting that "they all secretly watch it."
In October, Bugg hailed hisNo.1 in the charts as a victory for guitar music, declaring it his job to "keep that X Factor shit off the top of the charts."
Asked about Bugg’s comments in an interview with Shortlist this week, Cowell said "Why do people get so upset that there’s a show that gives people who can’t get a record deal a chance to have a record deal?"
The X Factor creator added "You know what? They all secretly watch it. They’re all, ‘I hate it’, and get really angry, but they’re watching it every night."
Not quite everyone is watching it though, with episodes of The X Factor’s USA version pulling in just 3.6 million viewers.
This is a little less than half of what Countryfile gets in Britain.
