Ever wondered why Daft Punk wear their robot helmets? Well they’re not going to tell you, but their designer will have a go in new documentary Daft Punk - Behind The Helmets.
In the 5 minute long video, SFX designer Tony Gardner explains how the French duo wanted "to have their personalities be part of the musical experience as opposed to the people."
Gardner also reveals that ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ was the original inspiration for the now iconic costumes, which double up as LED screens for the band’s live appearances.
They even enlisted help from the man who designed NASA space suits, as well as the inventor of the Jumbotron.
The music duo, who rose to fame in the early 1990s, never perform without their faces completely hidden by the famous helmets.
"At the time, these were cutting edge" boasts Gardner, before adding "Not so much anymore."
