Mick Jagger has spoken about his performance with The Rolling Stones headlining this year's Glastonbury festival in 2013, dubbing it "the alternative Ascot" and admitting the festival toilet queues "weren't one of the high points".
Speaking to The Observer, the singer compared the ~Westcountry festival to the upper class horse racing event. "It's the alternative Ascot, let's face it - not that I've ever been to the proper Ascot," the 70 year old said.
"It's not your stage and it's not your crowd per se – people have bought their tickets before any acts have been announced," he added. "I know U2 didn't have the best of nights [in 2011], although the weather didn't help." Jagger also revealed Coldplay frontman Chris Martin had written a letter to the Stones listing the reasons they should play the festival. "Chris was very sweet. The truth is, though, that they'd never actually asked us – and the first time they did, we said yes," he said.
Jagger also said he did a bit of wandering around the 900 acre site, watching the Arctic Monkeys' set on Friday night and even exploring late night dance area Block9, calling it "kind of fun". He also admitted the queues for the infamous toilets were "not one of the high points".
