The 1975 are looking to Radiohead's album approach when it comes to recording the follow-up to their 2013 chart-topping debut, hoping to shock and surprise fans with sounds on their next release.

Matt Healy has praised Radiohead's evolving style, and says he hopes that The 1975 will be as undefinable as Thom Yorke and co, and get better with every release.

"The reason Radiohead are so great is that every time they bring out a record everyone says 'That's THE Radiohead record, they'll never define themselves more'," he tells Gigwise. "The reason they do, is everything they bring out is a distillation of everything that proceeded it. It's always what made them brilliant - but amplified and I'd like to do that.

"I'd like this record to be more sporadic," he says of their second album. "I want it to be more ambiguous stylistically. It's going to be fun."

Having previously likened new material to the likes of R&B icons Bobby Brown and Alexander O'Neal, Healy also reveals he has no regrets (yet) about revealing such personal information in his songs, having shared stories of sex and drugs on the band's first album.

"Honesty is the only thing I have," he says, when asked about his intimate lyrics. "The reason that our fans have invested in our music is because there is a certain amount of humanity there and a certain amount of humanity that people can invest and see themselves in.

"I feel we have a creative responsibility to keep that and to keep myself honest and I don't really care that much. I used to care, loads, when the band first came out. I used to say stuff like 'I don't read reviews' but I did. A lot of it is to do with the fact that I am becoming a public figure that people know about.

"There is a lot of shit on that record but there's a lot people don't know about me. The only things I will talk about on the next record are things that really matter to me, that I think will matter to other people."
