Jay Z has paid tribute to former South African president Nelson Mandela at a gig in LA this week, following the political and cultural icon's recent death.

The Magna Carter Holy Grail rapper dedicated his 2009 track 'Young Forever' to Mandela during his headline show at LA's Staples Center on Monday night (9 December, 2013).

"We want to dedicate this song to Nelson Mandela, a great man who spent 27 years in prison and came out to be president," said Jay Z as the song began to play at the gig, while screens behind the star showed images of the hugely respected political leader.

"All our dreams are possible," the rapper continued. "Tonight I'm living my dream in front of y'all. So anybody out there got a dream, y'all chase that mo'fucker down as hard as you can. Let that great man stand as an example of what you can do."
