Britney Spears has failed to land the US No.1 spot with her new album Britney Jean, marking the worst first sales for the US star of her career.
Spears shifted just 107,000 copies of her latest album, which includes the singles 'Work Bitch' and 'Perfume', landing at No.4 on the US Billboard charts. The chart placing is an improvement on her UK chart placing, where she this week entered at a shocking No.34.
Britney Spears' previous album, Femme Fatale scored the star a US No.1 in 2011, with first week sales of 276,000. Spears was beaten to the top spot in America by country star Garth Brooks, box set Blame It All On My Roots, which climbs from No.3 to No.1 on the US charts.
The Britney Jean album was released on November 29 to lukewarm reviews, with critics variously describing the record as "impersonal" and "lacking spark". It was previously reported that she sold just 6,400 copies on its first day on release in the UK.
