Despite recent controversy, Morrissey took to the stage at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Norway last night, covering Lou Reed as well as performing a new track. Watch his performance below.

With a Norweigan flag emblazoned on his bass drum and his band wearing matching 'Hustler' t-shirts, the former Smiths turned solo icon was introduced by Clare Danes and Aaron Echhart with a tribute to those injured and killed by weapons of mass destruction.

Moz then opened with new track 'People Are The Same Everywhere' before paying tribute to his friend and muse Lou Reed with a cover of 'Satelite Of Love'. He ended with the classic 'Irish Blood, English Heart' from 2004's You Are The Quarry.

His appearance at the concert was met with controversy when Norwegians spoke out in anger, with many refusing to forgive or forget his controversial comments about the Anders Breivik massacre. Many protested the decision for him to perform after he offended thousands with comments over right-wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik gunning down and killing 77 people in Oslo and on Utoya Island in July 2011.

Just a few days after the massacre, Morrissey spoke out during a performance of 'Meat is Murder' at a gig in Warsaw when he said the events in Norway were "nothing compared to what happens in McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried shit every day."

Morrissey refused to apologise over the comments, but released a statement detailing his upset at the attrocity added that everyone should "feel horror at the murder of any innocent being".

A Norwegian Aftenposten newspaper then ran a comment piece declaring that victims of the shooting and many other Norwegians would find the decision to invite Morrissey to the Oslo ceremony 'incomprehensible', with thousands agreeing.
